A Levitated Annular Rotor System for Vertical Flight
This project advances the technical maturity of a Levitated Annular Rotor System (LARS) that will power an electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) novel air vehicle to enter and disrupt the Ultra Heavy Lift market (commercial and military). LARS is scalable and designed to achieve a performance power density of 20 kW/kg using an electromagnetic polarity drive system that transfers energy to a rotor blade assembly within a confined space at the system annulus. The rotating blade tips are magnetically levitated in a superconductive environment to reduce or eliminate energy losses due to friction.
